The India Power Atlas
Part X · The Underlying Studies
Chapter 56

Religion, Demography, Identity and Memory

Religious demography, personal law, conversion law, language, and the politics of memory and symbols.

The 8 figures in this chapter are reproduced from the report of Atlas research module M10, with the passage of the study that explains each. They keep the study’s own labels and colours: RW denotes the Hindutva-aligned bloc and LW the coalition that contests it (see A Note on Terms).

See chapter 4 for the status of the Census and caste enumeration. Seat projection: M10_delimitation_projection.csv, model scripts/delimitation_model.py. M8 cites this as T43's canonical projection.

Identification and limits. Population projections carry error, and the RGI projection predates the Census 2027 count. The model also makes three assumptions:

56.55.1 Anti-conversion ("freedom of religion") laws: every state

Identity movements in the ledger (KRV, ABSU, TIPRA Motha, NSCN-IM, Leh Apex Body, Sarna bodies and others) are coded in chapter 8. θ-only units fall mechanically into LW (codebook issue 1).
